Yup. This was the first set of pictures we took on his 15 month birthday.
Not the best, you say? Yeah, this meltdown occurred because we pulled him away from playing with his walker to try and take some pictures. Mistake #1. So we aborted the mission, and let him carry on with his new found affection for his walker....
Happy as a clam. And look! He's actually using his walker the way he should be! By walking with it. He usually crawls around with it, pushing it with one hand, whilst the other hand it conveniently placed where his 2 favorite fingers fit snugly in his mouth. It is a sight to behold. But this, this is much more amazing to witness!
Remember I mentioned how he grew up so much on the trip to Michigan? Well this is one of the examples. He would never walk with his walker before we left. He would actually fuss if we tried to get him to do this. Since we have been back, he has been pushing it around everywhere, along with his high chair, the old papason ottoman, and random chairs around the house. Pretty much anything that isn't glued down.
Traffic jam. What to do??
Oh! The Peanut Butter Face. That's the ticket!
Precious boy!
So we tried again later. Some success as long as he was "reading"...
Oh man. I love the last two pictures so much! He just started doing this whole body shaking thing recently which is pretty dern funny. It's hard to describe, so thankfully we have a video of it. BUT hubby has it on his phone and he has not gotten around to putting it on the computer for me. So you will have to wait. But in the middle of picture taking, he just started doing it. It. was. awesome.
We haven't done one of these in a while!!
What we have learned in 15 Months:
- Isaac is a love. He gives hugs and kisses without even having to be asked. In the middle of playing he'll stop and come over to me, lay his head on my lap while I rub his back, and then be off again like nothing ever happened. He has a very sweet and tender side to him that I just adore.
- Isaac is a goose. He is so very, very silly. He laughs all the time. It is such a joy to hear. What a load off your shoulders just to see that baby smile. :)
- He is super ticklish. The best are the giggles we get in anticipation of getting tickled.
- He is very determined. He doesn't seem to do anything until he is absolutely sure he can succeed at it. You could also say he is a nervous nellie. But determined sounds better. He started crawling after many months of watching and waiting. He is definitely doing the same with walking. He is standing up everywhere. Most of the time now, without holding on to anything. He is working very hard to perfect his balance before he takes his first couple of steps. He did take one step, in which he promptly fell into my arms. But a first step, none the less! He cannot be pushed to do anything before he is ready.
- He is becoming more of a picky eater. He has definitely developed more likes and dislikes. We have gotten to the point now that if we do not put the food directly in his mouth he will take it off the tray and chuck it on the floor. Is he capable of feeding himself? Absolutely. He will only feed himself what he really likes though. That's the key. He still is not to keen on the meat scene. But loves his fruits, veggies and cheese! Current favorite: Fresh fruit, with blueberries topping the list. Which he would eat his weight in if you let him.
- He's got his non-verbal skills down pat. We know exactly what he wants, when he wants it. He doesn't even have to say a word. Which is probably why he isn't saying very many. He babbles a ton of incoherent jumble. I wish I could decipher it. But MAMA is still clear. as. day. Which melts my heart every time I hear it. His current vocabulary that he uses NON STOP include two words Mama, and Ca(r). He has said Dada, Grandma, Nana, Papa, Uncle, Oh, Cool, Apple, etc, etc, etc.
- He is very smart. He can shake his head yes or no if he does or doesn't want something. He can point out a lot of things if you ask him to (and let's be honest, if he wants to :) Of course, mama and dada. But he also knows everyone else in his life too. He knows which dog is which, and he can point out where his eyes, nose, ears, tongue, teeth and hair are (among other things) and has been able to for months now. His language comprehension is amazing, and very evident. It will be awesome once his verbal abilities catch up to his comprehension!
- He loves kids! Dan and I joke that he needs a big brother or sister, not a little one! He was oblivious when he met our newest little friend Autumn, but was enamoured with her older sister, Noel. Watch out Michael and Lauren!
- He still won't take a sippy cup. Dan and I haven't been the most diligent about trying anymore. He drinks directly out of cups very well and wants to do it himself. But isn't that coordinated yet. He also has stopped taking baby food all together. In the last month or so, every time we would offer him a jar, he would "spit" it back out at us. It took us a while, but we finally got the message. No more baby food!
- He loves the water. Pools are great fun, and he loves bath time!
- He loves being outside. All is right with the world when we are outdoors. So sad that Houston has not been accommodating. Just a few more miserable months ahead and then it will be GLORIOUS!
- He's very active. His favorite activities are opening and shutting doors. Playing with blinds. Turning light switches on and off. Pushing anything everywhere. Putting small things into bigger things, and then taking them out. And then putting them back in, and then taking them out. Pushing buttons; literally and physically. ;) Playing peek a boo. Being chased. Chasing Charlie Brown. Harassing and poking Lexie. Putting lids or caps on things and then you guessed it, taking them off. Turning the Roomba on and off. Listening to music. Dancing. Eating anything, anytime, anywhere. Making you laugh. :)
- He's a happy boy. He has always got a smile, or a Peanut Butter face waiting for you if you need it. I guess there's not much to be unhappy about for him, which is a blessing. If he gets his nap, and has a full belly this kid is good to go. Mommy and Daddy are very accommodating about that!
Well I could go on and on but I'll stop here. :) I hope that for those of you who don't get to enjoy this little boy everyday, that this gave you a glimpse into how wonderful, amazing and lovable he is. Although, I already know that there aren't enough words in the English language to describe just how marvelous he is. He is such a blessing, and we are so very thankful that God gave him to us, to call ours.
