28 Weeks!

Your Baby:

As the Big Day nears, your baby is getting ready to go towards the light at the end of the tunnel (the tunnel being the birth canal, the light being the one the doctor is shining directly into it so she can see what the heck she's doing). Other highlights this week:
Your baby's eyes are partially open now and can blink. Truly superior babies can actually wink. (OK, there is no way to prove that, but it's fun to imagine, no?) Your baby can also now become a shiny, happy person as he has begun having rapid eye movement (Get it? REM? Shiny, happy person?? We'll be here all week.)
His eyes have color now, too. It may not be the color he ultimately ends up with, especially if they're light gray or blue. The eyes typically don't settle on a final hue until nine months after baby is born. So when your mother-in-law says that the baby has her eyes, you can politely inform her that they'll most likely change soon. Sorry.
Your babe is downright chubby compared to a few weeks ago. He is about 15 inches long, about the length of an amusement park cinnamon-sugar-coated churro (yum!), and weighs 2 to 3 pounds.
Baby Belly at 28 Weeks:

How did this basketball get in my stomach???

Not too many new things to update on this week. We had another childbirthing class this past Wednesday. I think that it was much better than last week, but Dan thinks that it rated about the same as the first class. Our teacher actually got into some "childbirthing" things this week, whereas I didn't even feel like we broached the subject last time. Dan learned some new things and has some new doodles in his workbook to show for it. :] We did watch the always dreaded "birthing video". I thought it was terrible. Absolutely horrendous.  I have witnessed hundreds of live births and watched thousands more on t.v. and this video was repulsive. It showed nothing of the actual birthing experience. It didn't show the mom laboring, and her husband helping her through. We didn't get to see any birthing positions being used. All we had the pleasure of witnessing was a 400% zoom on the mom's privates when the baby is coming out. What exactly does that teach anyone about childbirth? Every once in a while they would scan back and show the mom completely naked pushing the crowning baby out. There were 4 different moms in the video and all 4 were naked. WHY?? Why was this video chosen to be the one shared with the class? I felt so bad for everyone that was viewing a birth for the first time, because even I was repulsed. I was left never wanting this child to come out. Good thing I have other experiences to pull from. Poor, poor Dan. He has already reserved himself to the idea that his eyes are going to be on my eyes for the entire birthing process. I am fine with that. And when he said he wasn't going to watch the birthing video, I had no problem with that either. I figure, if he's not going to see his wife give birth to his child, than he sure as heck doesn't need to watch some random lady give birth to hers! He watched for a little while, and then his retinas were scarred when they all of a sudden without warning showed the 400% zoomed image. He stopped watching after that, and I think he threw up a little in his mouth. :[

It's hard being a daddy sometimes.

We have plans to do some more work in the nursery this Saturday. Dan is going to hang some things up and we may end up going to get our glider as well. There isn't very much more we can do. We have to get the mattress for the crib in order for me to put all the crib bedding together, and we need the changing pad to be able to show us how high etc to hang our decals and such. So it is a waiting game. Did I mention yet that we received a wonderful present in the mail from Grandma? She sent little son all of his bedding and the decals for the nursery!! I was so excited to get it!! The blanket is so soft and so cute! I'll have to take a picture of that at least and post it on here for y'all to see. Thank you Grandma!!! First shower is the weekend of  St. Patty's in Michigan!! We can't wait!

Prayer Request:

Dan and I are both feeling like we have been under attack these past couple of weeks. We have been falling into fear, instead of being able to just trust God. We keep laying it down, but find ourselves right back at the cross trying to pick it back up again. So if you could please keep us in your prayers brothers and sisters, we would greatly appreciate it. We are struggling with trusting God with our finances right now. As it always happens, things like to come on you all at once. It seems like one thing after another keeps breaking, and we need to pay a whole lot to get things fixed. All of this already plays on our fears of how we are going to be able to afford anything once this baby gets here. So we are feeling a little overwhelmed. Prayer is what we need. We "know" that God will provide, but we need to know that God will provide. Thanks in advance. We love you all dearly.

  1. You mean, you won't be birthing in the buff?? lol, those videos are theeee worst. I still think you need to ask for a refund and take the class at Memorial. We actually got to practice different positions by the 2nd week.

Have faith, be smart with your money, and know that finances will find a way to work themselves out. Don't sweat that stuff; mommys & daddys always find a way to make it all work. As an official SAHM, I can help you find ways to save on stuff. And for pricey repairs: CALL JOHN. He knows everyone that can do it for cheap.

  4. I will pray for you two... my other friend Amanda struggled with the same fears, and then she passed me a book that got her through it called, "Calm my anxious heart"... a good read, I guess for this kind of stuff... but I know it's so hard to trust, and SO easy to have fear. I would give just about anything to be with you in person during all this. But I have no doubt that you two will be amazing parents, but not because you have the ability to do it, but because you realize you can't do it on your own. The greatest gift this baby could have is parents who realize they have to depend on God to do it all.... I'd take that any day over people who think they can do it on their own... Paul the freakin APOSTLE even mentioned that in his weakness, THAT is where God is strong... and I sure hope God is strong in your family... and it will be throuh you turning to Him in your weaknesses, which you're alredy doing... you're gonna do amazing, and I can't WAIT to see what God does in your family. :)

  5. OK, so I am feeling really bad b/c I recommended this class to you! Mark and I really liked it, but we also did private lessons with her so I don't know if that made a difference. We were able to have more of like a discussion instead of a lesson. I remember watching a video, but not the one you're speaking of!
Also, I totally labored in the buff! :-) There I was in all my glory with the a/c set at 60, a fan blowing right on my face, my mom and sister putting cold wet rags on me and I was STILL burning up!! They on the other hand were in long sleeves and sweaters. You might be surprised!
And as an encouragement, When we decided for me to stay home, on paper we were $400 short every month. We knew that God wanted us to have me stay home and so I quit my job knowing we would have a $400 defecit. AFTER I quit, Mark got a raise, and got hired to help with some stuff at church and this more than made up for the defecit! God is so faithful to provide. We have not been in need or even in want for anything.
Thank you for sharing your blog! I have been reading, but just now getting around to commenting :-) I love hearing about your sweet baby!

  6. Thank you everyone for your prayers and encouragement! It is great to hear! Dan and I are definitely praying a lot about this, and will continue to, we really really appreciate your prayers as well.

Crystal--don't worry, a lot of people recommended this class to us. For the biblical aspect of it, it is worth it. I am glad that we are in it. I think that it is getting progressively better. So that's a good thing. :)

    <3 you all!!
